A bit over 11 miles from Tillamook on Highway 6 you will find this easy drive-up summit – Peak 2300. The road was graveled smooth in early 2018 and would be drivable in a passenger vehicle, even if a little steep in a few places.

Turn north from Highway 6 onto Coast Range Road. Proceed on the main track uphill for four miles. Here there is a sharp right turn and the nicer road continues uphill. You’ll take the next sharp right after a quarter mile towards the summit and RF site, and continue about 100 yards to a wide spot just below the fence. We set up at these wide spots, using the small trees to support our antenna poles. And we set up a bit of ‘shade’ to keep out (some) of the rain. We experienced no QRM from the RF site, but only a drizzly rain on this activation. There’s little 2m FM activity on the coast and we reached no one on 146.52 simplex.

There was spotty T-Mobile service and AT&T was only a little better. APRS spotting worked well. There may be views from this summit in clear weather - we had no such experience. You might consider also activating nearby Blue Ridge, W7O/NC-037.
