All this is by memory and was my very first SOTA but hope it is useful. Grizzly Peak trail is a commonly hiked trail in the Ashland area as it is easily accessed and well defined. Grizzly is the view all of us Ashlanders see each day. Follow any road map, easy to navigate. I recommend early hike during the busier times of the year (late spring, summer) as the dead end parking area gets very full, parking can get difficult and crowded.

I had the pleasure of being the first on the mountain in the early morning and enjoyed an abundance of wildflowers, views of Mt. McLoughlin, and was joined by a Great Gray Owl swooping down in front of me. The trail is a moderate climb through the timber from about 5200' up to about 5800', then it forks, to the right is where you gain the last ascent. The summit loop trail leads you around the upper face of the mountain. Turning right on the loop will bring you to the summit which is basically a pile of rock to the right hand side of the trail. There is plenty of room, rocks, meadow, trees in the area to set up as you please within the contour line, and no interference. However, you will have no summit top view and there is a fair amount of people traffic at times.

I highly recommend after activation (or before), getting back on to the trail and at least take the loop trail on the mountainside facing south, despite it not being in the contour line for activation. You will be out of the timber and have a spectacular view of the Rogue Valley, Mt Shasta, Roxy, Table Rocks, Klamath-Siskiyou Mountains, Crater Lake Rim, etc. The hike including full loop is about 5 miles round trip with about 700' gain.
