Gales Peak is probably on the "not recommended" list for activations near Portland. Although access is possible, you are not allowed to do it with a motor vehicle, making the six mile round-trip on a logging road fairly unattractive.

Note that there was once a trip report for this peak, back in the day. But it was lost when W7/ changed to W7O, W7W, W7I, etc. This summit is on private land and there is only access to this peak on weekends and using non-motorized transportation. Do not drive through an open gate - it may not be open when you return. Do not enter on weekdays when there are logging operations.
Take NW Stringtown Road west off of Highway 47 south of Forest Grove. After about four miles when Stringtown is at its most western bounds, find NW Sylvia Way and head uphill. After a short distance you'll find a gate, signed with instructions for public use. If there are other signs restricting access, follow them.
A good map and GPS are useful from here on to navigate the maze of roads on this forestland. Much of your views on the three miles to the summits will be clearcuts. At a T intersection at the end of NW Silvia Way, turn left for 0.2 miles and then continue up to the summit where you'll find a small radio installation. The total distance from NW Stringtown Road to the summit is about three miles.
