Once you find Sharps Creek Road, you can follow it to the trail head with ease. You should not try the road to the trail head unless you have a 4x4 as rocks and ground clearance will give you trouble. During the summer, the look out is manned only from around noon to 4:00 pm. This is when the gate will be unlocked at the trail head. Otherwise, it is a very nice trail (1.1 mile dirt road ) to the summit. At the top I had ZERO cell coverage! (AT&T) No way to spot myself! So I called CQ on the usual 20m SOTA freqs with no respnse. I called NS7P on several freqs as he has the best ears in Or. I listened for my usual SOTA chasers who always have great signals out west. No response and the band was pretty quiet. So I fell back to the "hunt and pounce" technique and started roaming the band. It was pretty dead the day after Field Day. I checked into a net, broke in to a friendly three way qso, and found a NPOTA station in about a half hours time. My ft-817 with its mighty three watts of ssb did get the job done. The bugs were extra BAD! The look out tower is closed for repairs and not being rented out right now. Bohemia Mt w7o/wv-002 is another summit you can do from the same trail head. With all the hassles we still had a BLAST!
