Tumala (or Squaw) Mountain in the Clackamas River drainage is a nice walk through the woods of about 2.5 miles RT and about 800 feet of net gain. It can be done in conjunction with Githens Mountain from the same trailhead.
The trailhead for this summit is off of a paved Forest Road near 45.2460° -122.0508°. These directions will get you to the trailhead:
Three miles past the 211 junction with 224 in Estacada, take a left onto SE Fall Creek Rd, the next left onto SE Divers Rd, and then right onto SE Tumala Mountain Rd. Go 5.8 miles on this road, heading east, then turn right to keep on SE Tumala Mountain Rd. After 0.6 miles it changes to NF-4614 and continues east. Go 6.7 miles to find a small turnout for the trailhead at the coordinates above. There are painted signs on the rocks at the trailhead.
Head southeast on Old Baldy Trail #502 (to the right). The rolling terrain shortly enters The Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness. You'll go about 1.2 miles, sometimes steeply up and down, to a junction with the 1/4 mile Squaw Mountain trail (that is really about 1/3 of a mile long). The sign and trail junction may not be obvious but the trail continuation to Twin Springs is not as heavily used because that trailhead road is so challenging. The trail is described here: http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5376144.pdf.
The trail briefly joins the road to the summit - make sure you note the turn on the way back. The summit has the foundations of a fire lookout, some good views, and trees around for rigging antennas. There's a small radio site from which we experienced no interference.
